  • Purpose and learning objectives

    You will be presented to various automation systems and robotic solutions in the modern industry, as well as the dimensioning of automated production lines.

    We will use specific tools to design and building an automated system based on selected standard components from mechanics, electronics and programming.

    In the elective you will work with both simulation software, as well as with physical hardware where we will develop a working prototype ex. (automated production lines with or without industrial robot).

    The elective deals with many aspects of automation systems, which contribute to gain deep knowledge in automation and robot structure, sensors and actuators choice and application as well as interaction between hardware and software.


    The student acquires knowledge on:

    The hardware and software for industrial automation.
    Design automated production line.
    Programming the automation line.
    Industrial robot.
    Simulation and test system.


    During the product development process, the student is able to apply the key methods and tools, including:

    Schematic illustration of automation design.
    Define and selecting the hardware component for automation line.
    Define and selecting the software for needed automation line.
    Building a functional prototype using the tools presented in the course
    Programming the automation system.


    After the course, the student is able to:

    Explain the preconditions for automation.
    Define the automation solutions components and systems.
    Describe functions for different automated solutions and what is needed of support system.
    Design, implement and program an simple industry automation line.

    The examination consists of a joint oral group presentation followed by individual Q&A sessions:
