CAD/CAM prototyping (Elective) (EN)2019/2020
You will learn how to design products in order to minimize the overall environmental impact throughout the product life. You will gain the skills to calculate the total environmental impact of different design alternatives based on the selected materials.
You will increase your knowledge about and skills in design as form and expression. This
knowledge and skill set will be developed in lectures on the different historical interpretations
of aesthetics, expanded use of SolidWorks and finally a set of modules on development of

digital world and physical production. You will be equipped to assist companies in the
development that is happening in the industry right now.

It is difficult to imagine production without also thinking about products, in the same way as it is almost impossible to discuss product development without touching on materials and
production methods. Nevertheless, students on the PRT study programme, whose structure is extremely broad, need to have the opportunity to target their studies in relation to specialising to an even higher degree in product development (PUD) or production (PRO).
For this reason, the third semester is structured such that students initially choose their
preferred area of specialisation at the start of the semester, making it possible to establish a
PUD and a PRO class. Parts of the teaching will then be held for both classes in parallel, while
others will be themed in relation to the two individual fields of specialisation.
The intention is for the teaching elements within the core areas related to the chosen area of
specialisation to be implemented as far as possible in the semester project.
The themes under the headline JOINT CLASSES are included in the teaching series for all
students, whereas other classes are aimed only for the two fields of study – product
development (PUD) or production (PRO).

The synopsis is not a mandatory part of the study programme, and failing to hand it in – or
submitting it late – will not be penalised with one exam attempt. However, it is an important
working document, which we strongly recommend that you submit. If a group does not submit a synopsis, is not entitled to guidance.
The synopsis is used as the final basis for evaluating the quality of the project and for its final approval. Approval takes place immediately after submission in connection with “evaluation of the synopsis”. The finished synopsis must contain an overarching project plan.
The synopsis must cover no more than three normal pages – for both group and individual

• Problem formulation
• Context/empirical foundation
• Methodological and theoretical considerations
• Tentative conclusion
• In addition synopsis must contain an overall project plan.
Evaluation of the synopsis
• 5 minutes for the presentation
• Teachers provide feedback. Max. time: 15 minutes
• Justify the project. Why is it still a good idea? Illustrate the needs you aim to cover.
• Demonstrate the methods and theories you have applied.
• Present the results and solution proposal(s) you have achieved.
• Put into perspective and evaluate your provisional solution proposal(s).
• Present a revised project plan for the remainder of the period.
• Present at least 2 physical concept models
• Show how you systematically have chosen which concept to detail and concretise further
in the second phase of the assignment.
• Present a quantified labour division
• A 10-minute presentation in the format of your choice.

reference/bibliography does not count)
• Use an easily readable font in size 12
• Title page presenting the following information:
o Title of the report
o Your full name(s)
o The school name and logo
o The names of the associated teachers/supervisors
o Number of characters in the report, including spaces.
o For assignments that stem from companies – or which are closely linked to a
given company – the title page must also state the name of the company, as well
as the name and email address of a contact at the company.
Projects are generally expected to have numerous relations to the business community, so it is important that you CLEARLY reference company association on the title page, and state
whether the report may or may NOT be made public. See the section concerning publication.
It is expected that reports will feature elements of visual communication including sketches,
figures, diagrams and so on.
Exceeding the rapport extent (see above) can affect the grade. If the difference is significant - ie more than 25% - then formal requirements are not observed and it could result in a
rejection of the project.
A chart of the division of labour (in percent) must be included for any group work.
Please note that the projects will be checked for plagiarised content. Plagiarised content also
includes the reuse of more than one sentence from your previous projects unless the source is clearly stated.
Reports and synopses must be saved in PDF format and uploaded under “Besvarelse”
(Answers) in WISEflow.
NB: The maximum file size cannot exceed 25 MB – and appendices should be gathered in a
combined PDF file with a table of content as the first page. Excel and Microsoft Project
formats are exceptions, which are submitted in their original version. Appendices are not
taken into account of the assessment of the report.
Reports uploaded as PDF image files will not be accepted. This means that text and tables
must be able to be edited, scanned and marked in the uploaded pdf format.
For group submissions, makes sure that all group members submit the material in the relevant flows. The names of all group members must be stated on the title page or other form of front page.

In the subject CAD/CAM prototyping (Elective) (EN) you will receive 27 hours of instruction, which corresponds to 36 lessons (1 lesson = 45 min.) and 20% of your total workload for the subject.
