CAD/CAM prototyping (Elective)
2024/2025- Purpose and learning objectives
In the process of producing a 3-dimensional product with double curved surfaces, you are introduced to various digital tools. The process involves 3D scanning, SolidWorks Surface modeling, CAM setup in Fusion 360, and milling on the CNC router with manual finishing of the work piece. Work is done in teams of 3.
KnowledgeThe student acquires knowledge on:
Skills
2- and 3d splines as well as surface tools (swept, lofted, boundary, and filled surfaces)
practical CNC milling processes
choosing CNC machining tools and programming / defining milling pathsDuring the product development process, the student is able to apply the key methods and tools, including:
Competences
scanning of a physical object and converting the digital representation into a mesh for SW modelling
importing CAD to CAM software and simulation of the CNC milling process
drawing/modelling a double-curved item with guidance, based on 3d scan
handling manual finishing and surface finishingAfter the course, the student is able to acquire and apply:
setting up and using the CNC router for their own design
