- Purpose and learning objectives
National subject element Residential Construction consists of a cross-disciplinary project based on a specific, minor work of construction. The subject element makes up 30 ECTS and includes the following subject areas:Knowledge

The student will gain knowledge about:Skills
1. the basic constructional disciplines of the profession and associated relevant documentation
2. the basic methods of project planning and execution, including understanding of materials, construction principles, social, environmental, and financial aspects
3. common communication methods as well as analogue and digital tools and standards
4. the parties of the industry, professional areas, and insight into the construction process
5. the basic mathematical and structural principles applied, including technical installations and statics
6. methods of information seeking in project planning
7. principles and tools applied to land surveying, staking, and registration in the building and construction area.
The student will get the skills to:Competences
1. apply methods and tools for the collection and analysis of information at a basic level
2. apply project planning methods and tools and methods for the coordination of the construction process
3. apply methods and tools for land surveying and staking projects
4. apply methods and tools for the organisation and planning of professional cooperation
5. disseminate practice-orientated and subject-related issues to relevant business partners
6. assess practice-orientated and theoretical issues, account for and choose relevant solutions.
The student will learn to:
1. manage construction solutions and documentation at a basic level
2. deal with different constructional issues and how they affect each other
3. participate in disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation in study-related contexts
4. identify their own learning requirements in a structured context.
- Type of instruction
The teaching is based on the understanding that learning is most efficient if students are given the opportunity to work with real-life assignments from, or inspired by, companies in relevant industries.
When choosing a project, the possibility of incorporating the academic and professional challenges throughout the semester into the project must be taken into account.
The students are given the opportunity to be involved in the various project phases, from preliminary analysis to realisation of the project. In connection with the project work, the students are faced with real-life problems to be solved based on the given theory, and are to organise the work in such a way that deadlines can be met. The students are furthermore provided with the necessary qualifications to work independently, thereby preparing them to complete the final project as an individual assignment.
This working method allows the students to gain an understanding of how problems are identified and analysed, how solution models are set up, and how the right solution is adopted.
