  • Purpose and learning objectives

    National subject element Industry and Prefabrication consists of a cross-disciplinary project involving project planning of industrialised components applied in a specific construction.
    The subject element makes up 25 ECTS and includes the following subject areas:

    Business (5 ECTS)
    Communication and Cooperation (5 ECTS)
    Production (10 ECTS)
    Project Planning (5 ECTS)

    Knowledge

    The student will gain knowledge about:
    1. common constructions and building-technical principles, including statics and technical installations, and an ability to reflect on these principles
    2. prefabricated methods of production and execution during the construction process, including planning and management tools, and an ability to reflect on these methods
    3. forms of organisation, cooperation and management in a project planning and production context, and an ability to reflect on these forms
    4. social, environmental, financial, and technological aspects during the project planning and production process
    5. basic principles, theories, and methods for setting up and running a business.

    Skills

    The student will get the skills to:

    1. apply methods and tools for the collection and analysis of information
    2. apply project planning and production-technical methods in the construction process of prefabricated construction
    3. apply digital building information models (BIMs), transfer and extract data between different digital platforms and information systems
    4. assess and analyse theoretical and practice-orientated issues in prefabricated construction and account for the chosen actions and solutions
    5. assess the basis for contracts and forms as well as coordinate contracts and tenders
    6. disseminate practice-orientated, subject-related issues and solutions to Danish and English-speaking business partners and users.

    Competences

    The student will learn to:
    1. analyse and document relevant building-technical issues
    2. manage construction solutions for the purpose of production optimisation, taking social, environmental, and financial aspects into consideration
    3. manage the handover of digital project and documentation materials as a basis for digital tendering
    4. independently participate in disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation on the preparation of project materials
    5. participate in cooperation on the management of construction and building projects
    6. identify their own learning requirements and acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies.

  • Type of instruction
    The teaching is based on the understanding that learning is most efficient if students are given the opportunity to work with real-life assignments from, or inspired by, companies in relevant industries.
    When choosing a project, the possibility of incorporating the academic and professional challenges throughout the semester into the project must be taken into account.
    The students are given the opportunity to be involved in the various project phases, from preliminary analysis to realisation of the project. In connection with the project work, the students are faced with real-life problems to be solved based on the given theory, and are to organise the work in such a way that deadlines can be met. The students are furthermore provided with the necessary qualifications to work independently, thereby preparing them to complete the final project as an individual assignment.
    This working method allows the students to gain an understanding of how problems are identified and analysed, how solution models are set up, and how the right solution is adopted.

    The project assignment is based on an outline proposal, which will be further developed during the project proposal phase, when the design, construction technical analyses and challenges are clarified with a view to final client approval. On the basis of the project proposal, material is then prepared for approval by the authorities, after which tender documents are prepared for parts of the project.

    Any requirements of form and scope will be handed out during the teaching.
