The elective introduces the method for investigate, analyze and propose technical solutions for an existing piece of architecture. In the architectural design, elective module the focus will be to investigate and analyze an existing building, out of a limited set of documentation. From the limited documentation, the students are asked to clarify the concept and the idea of the project as well as articulate its architectural expression. Further, the students will investigate and analyze the building and propose solutions for a super and sub-structure, standard constructions and the associated key junctions. As the documentation given for the building is sparse, the students will need to clarify such technical solutions for the architecture based on both the investigations, the analytical approach and to some degree, the students own design and imagination.
In order for the students to maximize the learning outcome from the elective module, we operate with a high degree of knowledge sharing and class dialogue. We collaborate broadly and inspire and share our knowledge skills and competences generously. This is facilitated through reviews in class, focusing on architecture, super and sub-structures, standard constructions, details and materials.
