  • Purpose and learning objectives

    The objective of the module is to present the student to conceptual development methods and theories, with the purpose of developing a relevant Brand Design concept. The student works strategically, tactically and operationally with concept development for company. The process will include the whole development process, from identification of problem to a tested concept.

    Knowledge

    The student will gain knowledge about:

    -the process of working with a brand in order to develop innovative concepts.

    -applied theories and practical concept development models.

    -visual and verbal brand identity in order to develop innovative brand concepts.

    -applied theories and practical creative and qualitative methods to identify user insights and innovative campaign concepts.

    Skills

    The student will get the skills to:

    -apply central methods and tools from the subject area and skills associated with employment within the field of concept development.

    -use methods and tools from the profession and skills associated with employment within the field of concept development.

    -assess practice-orientated and theoretical concept development issues as well as justify and select innovative concepts.

    -disseminate and communicate brand and concept-related issues to partners, including non-specialists.

    -apply creative methods, tools and techniques for the development of innovative concepts and products.

    -assess and apply relevant qualitative methods for the identification of relevant user insights.

    -apply an empathic and analytical approach to the concept development process.

    Competences

    The student will learn to:

    -handle complex and development-orientated issues related to concept development.

    -independently enter into disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation on brands and concepts.

    -identify their own learning needs and structure their own learning in relation to working with concept development.

    The teaching methods in this course consist of lectures, video, exercises, workshops and group work.

    Equipment needed to participate

    The student must bring a computer with the Adobe-package as well sketching and writing tools.

    The exam is based on a subject or project from specialisation module 1, 2, or 3, which the student independently selects.

    The student must professionally discuss and critically take a stand on the process, method and theory. This forms the basis for the examination, as well as a dialogue about an examination question that is drawn in the examination room, where the student is tested in knowledge, skills and competencies within specialisation module 1, 2, and 3.

    The selected project can be both digital and physical.

    The duration of the oral examination is a total of 30 minutes, of which a maximum of 10 minutes is allocated to the examinee's oral presentation, 10 minutes for professional dialogue and 10 minutes for grading.

    Own notes may be brought if a copy is handed out to the examiner and external examiner at the oral examination.

    The test is assessed on the basis of the specific learning objectives that appear in each module.
