  • Purpose and learning objectives

This elective is designed to improve the creative content skills of Design & Business students by focusing on developing written and photographic content for a variety of magazine genres. To understand the magazine format, students will be introduced to the classic elements of the genre, but the overall goal is to challenge conventions. Working in specific content teams, students will find inspiration in a variety of creative genres: from poetry to flash fiction, from abstract photography to multimedial visual expression.

The content teams will work together with design teams from the elective module Editorial Layout. The goal is to create a magazine where design and content support each other. Additionally, the conceptual process students will follow emphasizes the tactility of the creative journey, and we will use the KEA labs to experiment with the physical form of the magazine. In addition to working on campus, students will visit different exhibitions and other sites of inspiration.

    Knowledge

The student will gain knowledge about:

-theories, methods and practice in communication, strategy and media understanding.

-aesthetic and design-related tools and techniques in the development process.

    Skills

The student will get the skills to:

-apply, dissimilate and transform knowledge strategically — in writing, visually and orally.

-select the right aesthetic tools and techniques for the development of the final product based on the elements of the concept.

    Competences

    The student will learn to:

-independently enter into disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation, taking a professional approach to the subject area of Communication design.

-design different communication products that take into account the concept's message and set of values.

-apply and defend anthropological methods for collecting relevant data and disseminate complex professional issues, also across cultures, in a well-argued and well-documented way.
