  • Purpose and learning objectives

    The bachelor project, together with the other exams in the programme and the internship exam, documents that the programme's goals for learning outcomes have been achieved.

    Furthermore, the Bachelor project will document the student's understanding of practice and centrally applied theory and methodology in relation to a practice-orientated problem. The problem must be based on a specific task within the programme's area. The problem statement must be central to the programme and the profession and be prepared by the student, possibly in cooperation with a public or private company. The institution must approve the problem statement.

    Prerequisites for access to the examination
    The professional bachelor’s degree exam cannot be completed until the student has passed all other exams in the professional bachelor’s degree programme in Design & Business and handed in any mandatory activities. Upon completion of the above-mentioned exams and activities, the student is automatically registered for the professional bachelor’s degree exam.

    The bachelor's project consists of a written report and an oral exam based on the report. The written work may be drawn up individually or in groups of max. 2 students in which case the 2 students will be assessed individually.
    Detailed information on the deadline for handing in the report as well as time and place for the oral exam will be available on Fronter.

    The individual written exam
    The written report can make up no more than 25 standard pages. A standard page is equivalent to 2,400 characters, including spaces. Unlike footnotes, the front page, declaration of confidentiality/statement of truth, executive summary, table of contents, list of references and appendicesare not included in the scope of the paper. Photos, illustrations and figures are not included either.

    The written group exam
    The written report can make up no more than 45 standard pages. A standard page is equivalent to 2,400 characters, including spaces. Unlike footnotes, the front page, declaration of confidentiality/statement of truth, executive summary, table of contents, list of references and appendices are not included in the scope of the paper.

    Photos, illustrations and figures are not included either.
    Each group member’s contribution must appear clearly and form an integrated whole that can be assessed on its own.

    The group members' shared contribution cannot exceed 30% Groups may be formed across specialisations, and even across the Danish and international specialisations.
    However, the bachelor's report must be submitted in the same language. In connection with group reports, each group member will give their own presentation at the oral exam. Each group member is assessed individually and given an individual mark.

    Initially, the student hands in a preliminary problem statement for the bachelor project, which is approved by the main supervisor. If the problem statement is not assessed to be within the scope of the programme or within the frames of the bachelor project, the student will be contacted by the main supervisor regarding the possibility of supervision about the problem statement.

    Upon approval of the problem statement, the students will be assigned a principal supervisor, usually the bachelor project examiner. In addition, the student may choose different assistant supervisors.

    For the individual exams, guidance consists of two 45-minute sessions with the main supervisor and one 30-minute sessions with an assistant supervisor.
    For group exams, each group member has three 45-minute sessions with the main supervisor and two 30-minute sessions with an assistant supervisor. Both group members can participate in the guidance together. Detailed information on the booking of guidance will be available on the Fronter.

    No further guidance available. If a student fails to book available guidance, the session in question will be deducted from the total number of guidance sessions. If the student does not show up for a session, the session will likewise be deducted form the total number of guidance sessions. No guidance by mail, and the supervisor will not read long stretches of text before a guidance session.

    The oral exam:
    After submission of the bachelor’s report, the student can start preparing the oral presentation. The student is not allowed to introduce new material at the oral exam. This means that everything the students prepares from the time of submission of the written report and until the oral exam, must be described in the bachelor’s report.
    At the oral exam, the student is examined in the bachelor's report, the oral presentation and other relevant syllabus and academic subjects. The student's oral presentation must use the bachelor’s report and the overall problem formulation as point of departure and elaborate on the bachelor report's solution and perspective. The oral exam is an individual exam.
    Type of assignment
    The bachelor project is intended to demonstrate the student’s ability to formulate, analyse and solve complex and development-oriented issues independently and professionally through reflective application of the programme’s theories, methods and practices. The bachelor project must be based on a practice-oriented issue and must be drawn up in cooperation with or in relation to a public or private company, NGO or the student’s own entrepreneurial project.
    Formal requirements
    The written bachelor report:
    The report must contain:
    • Front page including: Title, name of the student, date of birth and year (dd/mm/yy), line of specialisation, number of characters, name of the main supervisor, statement of truth, as well as consent to making the project available at the library (requires a mark of 7), and possibly a declaration of confidentiality.

    The front page can be found in WiseFlow and must be filled in when the bachelor report is uploaded.

    Definition of standard page
    A standard page corresponds to 2,400 characters incl. spaces. When calculating the scope, footnotes and source references are included, but not the front page, declaration of confidentiality / declaration of faith and law, table of contents, list of sources (bibliography) and appendices. In addition, photos, illustrations and figures do not count.

    Reference system used
    Source list, source references and citations must be handled according to the Harvard Referencing System.

    Special requirements for the reference list
    In the assignment, you must refer to the theories and methods that you apply. You must ensure that the reference list (bibliography) contains all the theories and methods that you use in the assignment and that you refer to the correct materials, cf. the curriculum. For example, you must not refer to a teacher's presentation, but must refer to the original source from the curriculum.

    Appendices are placed according to the reference list and should only be included if the student refers to it in the assignment.
    An appendix is materials that the student makes available to the reader, but which do not belong in his full excerpt in the assignment.
    Attachments can be - but are not limited to - interview transcripts, questionnaires, statistical summaries, hard-to-access documents, etc. An appendix must bear the appendix number, title, explanatory text and any references. For several appendices, the student must make an appendix overview. Each new appendix starts on a new page.

    Exam languages
    The oral exam has a duration of 45 minutes. 15 minutes are set aside for the presentation by the students. Another 15 minutes are set aside for a professional dialogue, and finally, the last 15 minutes are set aside for discussion of the students’ performance, and marking.
    Permitted exam aids
    For the written part of the bachelor’s project, there is no restriction on the use of aids. For the oral exam, the student is allowed to bring their presentation. The student must bring their own computer and adapter for their presentation.

    The bachelor’s project is intended to demonstrate the student’s ability to:
    ● identify, argue for and define a relevant problem formulation
    ● select, explain and apply relevant academic literature, theories and methods
    ● provide, analyse and consider empirical material in accordance with relevant theories,
    techniques and methods
    ● perform and justify analyses with the inclusion of relevant professional concepts and empirical
    ● select, define and justify a solution in relation to the chosen problem formulation
    ● reflect on and justify the practical realisation of the chosen solution
    ● communicate professional issues and solutions in a logical, structured and well-organised way in
    written and oral presentations.

    In addition, the student must also demonstrate the ability to satisfy the learning objectives (knowledge, skills and competences) for Design and Business and for their specific line of specialisation.
    Spelling and writing abilities
    Spelling and writing skills are included in the final exam project. However, the content is most heavily weighted.

During your final assignment you or your group will receive 2 hours of guidance from your counselor.

The rest of the time equivalent to 409 hours are used on final assignment work. It is your responsibility to structure the time spent on writing your assignment, preparing for the exam, etc.

The final assignment primarily includes of the following activities: collecting empiricism, reading, writing, cooperating with a company.
