  • Purpose and learning objectives

    ERP systems play a central role in many modern organizations IT environment, supporting strategic goals and decision making, but especailly supporting the daily operations taking place in the execution of a companys business processes.
    In this context new digital technologies are forcing organizations to reimagine their business models, the way their business processes are designed and the way their employees work in the digital economy. This is also affecting the design of the next generation of ERP systems.
    SAP S/4HANA® is SAP’s next-generation business suite, providing a digital core for the organization. It is a new product built on SAP HANA®, one of the most advanced in-memory platforms today. SAP S/4HANA® delivers massive simplifications in areas such as customer adoption, data model, user experience, decision making, business processes, and models. The system is designed to integrate with and utilize the IoT, Big Data, mobile, business networks, third-party systems, and more.
    The course will walk through the practical use of the SAP S/4HANA® cloud based ERP system for some of the major processes within a company:
    - Procure2Pay (Purchasing)
    - Order2Cash (Selling)
    - Plan2Produce (Producing)
    - Financials (Accounting & Controlling).
    This walk through will very much be in the form of “hands-on” exercises and you do gain a certain level of ability to use SAP S/4HANA®.

    Learning goals made simple – a summary
    You will gain a better understanding about the business processes that ERP systems support and how they can be integrated via system relationships that often are rather complex and complicated.
    More importantly you will gain experience in executing standard processes in SAP.

    Knowledge

    Gain a deeper understanding about some of the most important business processes that
    ERP systems support.

    Understand how the key attribute of integrating all of an organizations business functions and processes into one system actually is achieved through the ERP-systems structure, the
    available data elements & their setup and customization.

    Skills

    Learn about the current state of the art of modern ERP-systems

    Competences

    Get hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA standard processes (and though that
    understand that other major ERP systems typically will and do work in the same way).

    Stand better prepared to engage in a futurecareer where you work with the implementation,
    support or use of ERP-systems.

  • Type of instruction
    A mix of practice and theory.
    In each class there will be lectures followed by exercises in the SAP S/4HANA ERP system.
  • Subject/module requirement for participation

    Equipment needed to participate
    We assume students to have a laptop that runs Windows 10 (or later) or Mac OS X 10.12 (or later).
    Older versions of Windows or Mac OS and Linux might work in most cases – but is not supported with help to install open source tools or handle teaching examples.
    We assume students have a HDMI-port or miniDVI/lightning port on their laptop.
    In a select few teaching situations (not in 1st semester) examples are used, that does not work well with less than 4 GB RAM Memory – for this 8 GB RAM is recommended.

    Students will need office software (Microsoft, Apple, Google, or..).
    Students need to be able to produce and read pdf-documents, Word-documents, Powerpoint-presentations and Excel-spreadsheets.
    There exist a Microsoft cloud version that becomes available when you set up a free one-drive account.

    An Internet browser needs to be available (i.e. Chrome or Safari).
    We strongly recommend students to have access to Facebook and a private Facebook-account.

  • Exam

    This elective will be finalized by:

    1) Hand-in of a 5 standard pages mid-term group-based case report, which counts
    for 40% of the final grade.

    2) An Individual multiple-choice test, which counts for 60% of the grade.
    Both need to be passed.
    Grades is given according to the 7 scale.
