  • Purpose and learning objectives

    This elective is divided into two modules.
    1) A three-week joint module with students from UAS Grisons and KEA (4 ECTS)
    2) A follow-up module with only KEA students (6 ECTS)
    Both modules will focus on learning to make digitalization of Industry 4.0 sustainable.

    Sustainable digitalization of Industry 4.0.has the potential to increase efficiency and reduce waste, but it can also have negative environmental impacts if not implemented sustainably. During this elective you will explore the ways in which Industry 4.0 is adapting to the changing landscape of sustainable digitalization and the challenges and opportunities associated with it. You will also understand the role of legislation for sustainability including circular economy principles and clean energy technologies.

    Sustainability and especially the SDGs has been framed as one of the biggest business opportunities right now. Therefore, during this elective, we will focus on how to incorporate sustainability into the business strategy and to measure sustainability efforts, with the use of data. We will investigate how companies can be more sustainable in their digitalization approach using sustainable technologies.

    During this course, students will get the opportunity to gain practical insights from companies by visiting organizations working within Industry 4.0 in both Switzerland and Denmark. During your visit to Switzerland/Denmark besides working with course work, you will also get networking opportunities and a leisure time.

    The course will also provide you with the opportunity to get hands-on experience working with diverse teams formed of Danish and Swiss students working together towards solving a company challenge over a period of 3 weeks.

    •The knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex and rapidly evolving landscape of digital transformation in a globalized world.
    •Hands-on skills for implementing sustainable digitalization initiatives in real-world contexts

    Competences

    •International experience in collaborating with students from different countries and universities, which will enhance your cultural awareness and ability to work in multicultural teams.
    •Competences to analyze and compare sustainability practices in different contexts, as well as the ability to identify similarities and differences between them.
    •Ability to develop recommendations for improving sustainability practices based on your analysis, and to communicate these recommendations effectively to stakeholders.
    •Implementing project management, particularly in working with multidisciplinary teams both online and offline. This will enable you to effectively manage sustainable digitalization projects with diverse stakeholders and across different contexts.

  • Type of instruction
    Overall teaching methods are group work, binational workshops, problem-based casework, company visits and external lectures, feedback sessions.
    During the joint sessions in Denmark and Switzerland, the students will work in groups. The groups will be binational and will be formed on the first day of the course.

    Prerequisites for access to the examination
    During the elective cases with external partners will be mandatory group case hand-ins. Each of these includes a small report and a presentation.

    This elective will be finalized by:
    1) Report and presentation submission, developed together with the students from UAS Grisons, which counts for 40% of the final grade.
    2) An Individual/or group (groups are of max two persons) an 8. pages synopsis, which counts for 60% of the grade. The requirements of the synopsis will be given in class.
