  • Purpose and learning objectives

    This international, full-semester elective Digital Product Development is focusing on interdisciplinary, agile teams, establishing an early contact with companies, and their end-users, exploring market fit, entering into feedback loops, working with approaches to gain data-driven learnings. The intent is to develop digital products.

    The purpose of this elective is to qualify the student to design and develop digital products.

    It is an important element of this elective to collaborate with various lines of businesses.
    Students will be working on cases from different companies and industries. The purpose of this is to learn central methods and practices of the process of developing digital products.

    Knowledge

    The student has knowledge regarding:

    - theory, methods and terminology of design and development of digital products
    - tools and methods for data-driven development of digital products
    - applied methods and theory for gaining user insight in the process of designing and developing digital products
    - technologies and techniques for designing digital products
    - international trends and technologies in business practices of digital production

    The student has development-based knowledge, understanding and an ability to reflect on applied theories and methods regarding:
    - terminology for design and development of digital products

    - frameworks for planning and implementing digital products
    - tools and methods for data-driven development of digital products
    - international trends and technologies in business practices of digital production
    - data-driven business strategy and financial planning models

    Skills

    The student can:

    - apply methods and techniques for creating and implementing digital content across different platforms with the purpose of optimizing user interfaces
    - plan and complete tests for user interfaces and digital products
    - manage digital workflow and tools for planning, designing and producing complex digital products
    - use methods, tools and techniques for the production, post-production and publishing of - various types of digital content related to a digital product
    - theories and methods for planning and implementing digital products

    The student masters skills related to:

    - identifying technologies and techniques for designing and developing digital products

  • Type of instruction
    During this semester you will be collaborating with external clients in order to solve current digital business challenges with a digital product.
    Learning approaches
    The learning methods will be a combination of workshops, process facilitation, presentations from external professionals, online tutorials, project work with the actual client, feedback and coaching in order for your team to work efficiently and productively throughout the theme.

    Thank god its Monday
    Is equivalent to Google's renowned Thank god it's Friday - it's an all hands-on-deck session Where we will motivate each others, share thoughts. Get the week started with a boost.

    Workshops and labs
    As we work our way into the products it will become clear that new knowledge must be obtained, new tech stacks must be concured, new tools must be learned, more theory must be crunched. We will offer a new workshop on something relevant . Topics will be - whatever is needed in the context.

    Individual reflections on learning
    You will keep a worklog and add to your projects to your own portfolio) and you need to prioritize to spend some time thinking out of the box - what are your options from here? What are your reflection on your learnings? What are your challenges and how are you going to solve them?

    Retrospective and Planning in teams
    Each week you will conduct an internal team retrospective to discuss and maybe adjust your roles in the team and then you will need to look ahead and implement your learnings in your team.

    Team work: Fill in the blanks
    The Team spots are blank spots. Each team will be given tools and methods on how to navigate as a strong team. Furthermore, you and your team will be given guidance, coaching, mentoring and facilitations as you need it.

    Working on real challenges for real clients
    You and your team will be working with real clients and real challenges. You will be collaborating with selected clients in order to design and develop relevant digital products.

    Team work
    An important part of the theme is to work together in teams - and since a good diverse creative teamwork is an important part of creating creative digital solutions you will be learning relevant team tools.

    The purpose of forming diverse creative teams is to advance your collaboration- and project management skills, where you will learn from each other and generate ideas and creative creative solutions. Furthermore you will have the opportunity to work together across cultures and learn new skills and competencies in order to professionalize your way of planning and executing digital projects, digital campaigns and digital content - and meet some new great people.

    Even though most of this theme is based on team work - it is important to note that all individuals within the team are required to work with all areas of the project and are responsible for the entire project. The Deep dive week is individual though.
  • Subject/module requirement for participation

    Academic requirement for participation
    There is a language requirement in English at least B-level.

    The individual student can alternatively fulfill the language requirement through KEA's own language test, which is specially designed and corresponds to English at B-level in terms of competence. If the student does not pass the language test, he/she cannot be admitted to the English-language subject.

    Prerequisites for access to the examination
    The theme ends with a presentation and mandatory hand-in in Wiseflow (which is one of four mandatory assignments in the semester).

    Evaluation: Approved/not approved.

    Feedback will be given as either an approved/not approved in Wiseflow. Some assignments will be supplemented with oral feedback.

    It is a formal requirement that you pass all of the mandatory submissions in order to take the 3rd semester exam. The mandatory requirements will be submitted to WISEflow.

    The exam will be an individual oral exam based on your portfolio, work-log and an individual synopsis. The structure of the oral exam is: 5 min presentation + 20 min. exam + 5 min. grading/votation.
