  • Purpose

    The module aims to provide students with the skills to work conceptually and develop communication solutions to a specific user group based on a given case. In a structured and user-centric process, students will learn to explore cultural and societal trends that can inspire or challenge the communication process. In close cooperation with a relevant sender, students will address issues that affect the specific context of the user group.

    The module is inspired by different design approaches that seek to develop concrete concepts for specific recipients. Therefore, throughout this module, students will be presented with theory and methods that focus on the relationship between sender and recipient. In addition, the module aims to frame a communication designer’s unique set of competencies that combines strategy, visual communication, rhetoric, and media studies.

    Knowledge

    The student will gain knowledge about:

    -different communication strategies to build a bridge between the sender's message and the recipient's needs.

    -theories, methods and practice in communication, strategy and media understanding.

    -theories, methods and practice in design, innovation and media strategy.

    Skills

    The student will get the skills to:

    -select the right aesthetic tools and techniques for the development of the final product based on the elements of the concept.

    -detect, compare and manage trends and phenomena in relation to trends and social theory in a historical and user-orientated context.

    Competences

    The student will learn to:

    -design different communication products that take into account the concept's message and set of values.

    -apply and defend anthropological methods for collecting relevant data and communicate complex professional issues, also across cultures, in a well-argued and well-documented way.

    -handle development-orientated assignments within design and ideation.

    -handle complex and development-orientated issues within design technology and innovation.

  • Type of instruction and practical application of learning objectives
    The instruction will consist of a number of webinars, guest lectures, workshops, exercises, and guidance. The module emphasises the ability of students to understand and apply their academic and professional knowledge, skills, and competencies as communication designers.

    There is a prerequisite, which is stated when starting the module.

    The exam is based on a subject or project from specialisation module 1, 2, or 3, which the student independently selects.

    The student must professionally discuss and critically take a stand on the process, method and theory. This forms the basis for the examination, as well as a dialogue about an examination question that is drawn in the examination room, where the student is tested in knowledge, skills and competencies within specialisation module 1, 2, and 3.

    The selected project can be both digital and physical.

    Duration
    The duration of the oral examination is a total of 30 minutes, of which a maximum of 10 minutes is allocated to the examinee's oral presentation, 10 minutes for professional dialogue and 10 minutes for grading.

    Own notes may be brought if a copy is handed out to the examiner and external examiner at the oral examination.

    The test is assessed on the basis of the specific learning objectives that appear in each module.
