  • Purpose and learning objectives

    This elective course focuses on developing sustainable digital concepts in an intercultural context through iterative design and development processes. The course integrates user insights, technological understanding, and sustainability principles into concept development work, with particular emphasis on prototyping, user research, and value creation in cultural contexts.
    The course is organized as an international project-based programme, where students work with concrete concept development tasks from idea to tested prototype.

    Knowledge

    The student has:
    • practice-based knowledge of concept development processes from idea to implementation, with a focus on sustainable and circular solutions
    • knowledge of the relationship between technology choices, user behaviour, and environmental, social, and economic sustainability aspects
    • understanding of the importance of cultural contexts in digital concept development and value creation

    Skills

    The student can:
    • apply concept development methods for the systematic creation of sustainable digital solutions
    • integrate all three dimensions of sustainability (environmental, social, economic) into the concept development process
    • evaluate and argue for design choices based on user insights, technological opportunities, cultural context, and sustainability considerations
    • communicate concepts and their value propositions to international stakeholders

    Competences

    The student can:
    • independently manage complex concept development processes integrating sustainability considerations, technological understanding, and user insights
    • engage in interdisciplinary and intercultural collaboration on developing sustainable digital concepts and take responsibility for project outcomes
    • critically reflect on their own design choices and their consequences for users, society, and the environment
