Materials (Construction up until 2½ floor) (EN)
2021/2022- Purpose and learning objectives
General objectives
Knowledge
Within this subject you will be able to execute, independently and in
collaboration with others, a design process relating to material choices, in
accordance with the relevant regulations.
You will also make a coherent technological design with regard to location, local technologies, regional differences and climate
Learning objectives
You will obtain knowledge within:
•Concrete Technology production and Mix design;
•Steel technology basics and properties;
•Steel Rebar basics and properties;
•Timber technology basics;
•Have regard to material tolerances and moisture permeability .
You will obtain skills in:
•Scrutinizing, analyzing and choosing different structural materials
•Reporting about building performances and specifications
•Drill through the materials palette in a BIM programme, to make proper choices with regard to identifying materials, how they are graphically represented, their correct appearance, their physical properties and their thermal properties.
•Document material choices through a systematic property analysis approach
•Assess the Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) of selected materials
•Assess the material properties with regard to health and safety
•Assess the materials with regard to fire reaction and resistance
•Draw up a schedule of materialsYou will obtain knowledge within:

The teaching is based on the understanding that learning is most efficient if students are given the opportunity to work with real-life assignments from, or inspired by, companies in relevant industries.
When choosing a project, the possibility of incorporating the academic and professional challenges throughout the semester into the project must be taken into account.
The students are given the opportunity to be involved in the various project phases, from preliminary analysis to realisation of the project. In connection with the project work, the students are faced with real-life problems to be solved based on the given theory, and are to organise the work in such a way that deadlines can be met. The students are furthermore provided with the necessary qualifications to work independently, thereby preparing them to complete the final project as an individual assignment.
This working method allows the students to gain an understanding of how problems are identified and analysed, how solution models are set up, and how the right solution is adopted. - Subject/module requirement for
