  • Purpose and learning objectives

    General objectives
    Core theoretical fields used in the program are Project Organization and Procurement, and Construction Management.

    Generally, you should be able to gain extended insight in the scope and content of a project organization and planning activities dealt with in all design stages, including the preparation of tender materials for contractors.

    You should gain skills in working with specific industry standards and software used for planning construction works.

    Learning objectives
    A student who has met the objectives of the semester will be able to:

    •Plan and manage the study work in the semester using relevant scheduling techniques
    •Schedule core deliverables of project participants during design stages and the pre- tender stage
    •Apply a procurement strategy for the project, based on teaching and practical insights such as site visits and project case examples
    •Prepare detailed construction cost estimates for the resources involved in construction works, such as material, labour and equipment
    •Prepare the project budget, containing costs covering design, construction and site operation related works
    •Analyse a larger construction process based on activities sequences and contingencies
    •Develop a construction time schedule integrating cost and time data from relevant databases
    •Develop partial specifications for construction works
    •Gain skills in preparing construction site analysis and layout
    •Prepare tender work packages and related project documentation for the construction tender stage

  • Type of instruction
    The teaching is based on the understanding that learning is most efficient if students are given the opportunity to work with real-life assignments from, or inspired by, companies in relevant industries.
    When choosing a project, the possibility of incorporating the academic and professional challenges throughout the semester into the project must be taken into account.
    The students are given the opportunity to be involved in the various project phases, from preliminary analysis to realisation of the project. In connection with the project work, the students are faced with real-life problems to be solved based on the given theory, and are to organise the work in such a way that deadlines can be met. The students are furthermore provided with the necessary qualifications to work independently, thereby preparing them to complete the final project as an individual assignment.
    This working method allows the students to gain an understanding of how problems are identified and analysed, how solution models are set up, and how the right solution is adopted.
