  • Content and learning outcomes

    The 1st semester, the Architecture topic will introduce you to develop a project for a single-family house on a given site. You will take an existing house and develop it through regulation compliance to the detailing of building elements. You will execute, independently and in collaboration with others, a design process through the appropriate work-stages using authoring digital model and sketches.

    By meeting the objectives of this topic you will have gained knowledge and understanding of:
    • the architectural idea of a building concept
    • general ideas concerning sustainability.
    • interpreting a brief
    • understanding the basic communication to the client and stakeholders
    • basic site analysis, space organization, functional analysis and workspace planning.
    • project development and practice iterative strategies
    • principles behind proportion
    • basic drawing principles for architectural drawing in scale and detailing in accordance with the related phases
    • basic detail levels for architectural drawings and documentations
    • evaluate your proposals with regulation compliance making qualified standard construction, key junctions and coordinated decisions for a single unit.
    A student who has met the objectives of the semester will be able to:
    • Use of the project stages model
    • Draw techniques both digital and manually
    • Use functional diagrams as a means of communication regarding single-family houses.
    • Utilize principles behind drawing sets for different phases in the design stage
    • utilise the requirements of the building regulations
    • Utilize site forces and environmental criteria in the design of a building
    • Produce a quality assured layout design prior to technical design.

  • Type of instruction
    The teaching is based on the understanding that learning is most efficient if students are given the opportunity to work with real-life assignments from, or inspired by, companies in relevant industries.
    When choosing a project, the possibility of incorporating the academic and professional challenges throughout the semester into the project must be taken into account.
    The students are given the opportunity to be involved in the various project phases, from preliminary analysis to realisation of the project. In connection with the project work, the students are faced with real-life problems to be solved based on the given theory, and are to organise the work in such a way that deadlines can be met. The students are furthermore provided with the necessary qualifications to work independently, thereby preparing them to complete the final project as an individual assignment.
    This working method allows the students to gain an understanding of how problems are identified and analysed, how solution models are set up, and how the right solution is adopted.
